Special Focus: Saluting our military

The 6th annual McKeever's First Ride took place on April 5, 2014 at Gwinnett Fairgrounds near Atlanta. Guests of all ages enjoyed adaptive riding, roping, carriage driving, and other activities. All military personnel were honored with a public salute and honorary cap.

Live music was provided by Templeton Thompson, and our Celebrity Guest, Reggie Showers offered a motivational message about triumphing in life, despite suffering the loss of both legs in an accident at age 14. Reggie went on to set world records in NHRA motorcycle drag racing, and now devotes his time to motivational speaking and adaptive sporting  and snowboarding events.

Ed Dabney, Gentle Horsemanship expert, welcomed guests for the 5th year in a row, and invited everyone to more deeply appreciate the history and spirit of the horse. Ed has been Equine Director since 2010. His leadership and charisma adds a special quality to McKeever's First Ride. In 2014, his leadership insured a rich adventure for all who attended.

Guests were treated to demonstrations of adaptive fencing, by Shepherd Swords fencing team. Guests also enjoyed arts & crafts, a petting zoo, horse grooming, teen activities, mini horse activities, and reuniting with friends made at previous McKeever's First Rides!
